Software tools and API

Open Source Software

Open-source software released by the project for community use, made freely available through the project’s GitHub repository.

  • Canopy Height Model (CHM) Viewer
A browser-based tool for interactive 3D visualization of canopy height models (CHM), built entirely in JavaScript
    – Demo (with NSF Neon Data)
    – Download (GitHub)
  • treetop-r
R functions for extracting forest information from lidar-derived canopy height models (CHMs). Based on carlos-alberto-silva/weblidar-treetop, the scripts have been refactored into standalone, modular functions suited for automated or batch processing.
    – Download (GitHub)

  • lidar-canopy-metrics-r
R-based script for processing lidar point cloud data, generating and visualizing Digital Surface Model (DSM) and Digital Terrain Model (DTM), and extracting forest canopy metrics based on the lidR package.
    – Download (Github)

  • multi-temporal-lidar-forestry
This repository contains reproducible workflows written as R scripts (using the lidR package) & Jupyter notebooks for retrieving, processing, and analyzing multi-temporal lidar data to detect changes in forest canopies.
