OpenForest4D Advisory Committee Charter

Purpose and Mission

The OpenForest4D Advisory Committee provides strategic guidance and expert advice to ensure the project’s scientific integrity, relevance, and impact. The committee’s mission is to support the advancement of forest ecosystem monitoring and management.

Objectives

  • Advise on the scientific direction, technical priorities, and research goals of OpenForest4D.
  • Review and provide feedback on project milestones, deliverables, and educational resources.
  • Promote collaboration among stakeholders, including academic, government, and industry partners.
  • Ensure the project remains responsive to the evolving needs of the scientific and forest management communities.​

Committee Responsibilities

  • Provide expert feedback and input on the development and implementation of research-grade forest structure and biomass estimation tools.
  • Review and recommend improvements to project workflows, data products, and educational materials.
  • Advise on opportunities for community engagement, workforce development, and outreach.
  • Provide feedback to project leadership on strategic decisions and emerging challenges.​

Meetings and Operations

  • The committee will meet at least once annually, with additional smaller group or individual meetings convened as needed.
  • Meetings will be held virtually, with agendas circulated in advance.
  • All recommendations are advisory to the project leadership for consideration and implementation.​

Governance

The committee will be chaired by an OpenForest4D project PI, with administrative support provided by the members of the OpenForest4D project.
